Portable Tire Rack: Why and How to Use Them?

lift handling a lacing tire rack

Portable or movable tire racks are made to save time and last long (about 20 years). These tire racks are sturdy and can easily handle the roughness of your forklift. All made of steel, they will allow the best floor management there is for your warehouse.

Time Saving Racks

Their time saving aspect comes in the handling ease of both the content and container themselves. The portable tire racks make the reception of your tires faster and easier. You greatly decrease the number of tire manipulations by  avoiding to put the tires on the floor; you can simply put the tires in the rack and put it directly where you want it. You will save time and money due to extra efficiency. The portable tire racks require less workers and results in reducing costs in wages. Having less handling also reduces the potential risk of accidents and injuries.

Effective Space Management

The portable tire racks give you flexibility in space management for your tire warehouse. They also give you the ability to easily reconfigure your tire warehouse or only small sections at any time and in no time. The racks are also foldable giving you more space when not in use, making it a really useful solution if you are a third party logistics (3PL) and need your warehouse room for other purposes. If you do not use movable tire racks, you might want to try and compare the efficiency of the portable tire racks.

Portable Tire Racks: The 3 Tire Storing Options

warehouse using storing options on the MLFTD

There are 3 different ways to store your tires; you can lace them, store them on the side or simply place them on their tread.

The most common way is to stack the tires on the side walls. Stacking tires on their side makes the inventory fast and easy.  With this option some Health and Safety organizations might ask you to wrap the tires so they do not fall down.

The second option is to lace your tires; this increases the number of tires per rack by 25-30%. By lacing the tires, you take up the empty space in the center of the tire. This is where you save space.  This technique is usually used when you have large quantities of the same SKU.

Finally, the last way is to store your tires on the tread.  This method makes order picking fast and easy. In portable tire racks like the Passenger and light truck folding rack (MLTFD), you can have 32 different tires in the same rack, since they stand alone.

Steel pallets offer more stability and flexibility than their wooden counterparts. These pallets stack directly on top of each other and take very little room when folded
